The eSIMs are data only. This means they do not include a phone number and cannot be used for voice calls or SMS messaging. No phone number is assigned to an eSIM data bundle.
Using data services for voice and text
You can still make calls and send messages using mobile data through apps such as FaceTime, WhatsApp, iMessage, Messenger and similar services.
If you want to continue using your existing number through these apps, make sure your number is linked to the service. For example, bind your number to WhatsApp before travelling. This allows you to use your number over data and avoid roaming charges for traditional voice and SMS.
Using an eSIM with a physical SIM
If you use an eSIM alongside your physical SIM, you can use the eSIM for data roaming while keeping your physical SIM active for voice and SMS.
Your physical SIM will still follow your carrier’s roaming rates for calls and texts, but your data will run on the eSIM.
